I remember perfectly the time I recorded my first wedding a few years ago. The days before I was a nervous wreck, I couldn’t stop watching videos, I was constantly checking all my equipment, the timing of the wedding… but a beautiful excitement towards the unknown invaded me. But before continuing to tell my experience, let’s start at the beginning.
A Colombian film director who was in Seville shooting a feature film that I was working on, and after having hit it off with him during filming, told me, “Rafa, I have an assignment for you. An American couple friend of mine is getting married in Seville next month. We will have already finished the movie. “I would like you to go with me to record it.” The first response that came to mind was obvious, telling him that I wasn’t prepared, but then I thought… “Rafa, before starting filming, you didn’t feel qualified either…” so I accepted.
The couple got dressed in a well-known and luxurious hotel in the center of Seville. And I, afraid that anything would happen along the way, showed up at the hall 2 hours before the start of the recording. I remember that I sat in an armchair to review the camera parameters, and without seeing it coming, one of the janitors stood in front of me with a displeased expression and still with the face of someone who had woken up not so long ago, and then asked me about the reason for my arrival. I, somewhat surprised by his unexpected presence, greeted him and said that I had come to record the preparations for a wedding. He nodded, asked about the people staying and the start time, and at my answer to the latter, both of us started laughing. It was no wonder, probably half of the hotel guests at that time would still be in their seventh sleep.
Already in the bride’s room where she was getting ready, I was somewhat shocked because I didn’t know what to start recording. It was a couple of minutes. After breaking the ice with a series of presentations and comments, the photographer began to place the accessories and I took advantage of this to start recording.
Those were my first clips. That day did not turn out as well as one would have liked, because it needed a much-needed shoot in this profession, but it was the first of many and the beginning of a beautiful story that still lasts to this day.
